Make your own magnetic clasp necklace

Magnetic necklaces present a simple solution to securing your necklace without the assistance of anyone else. They are made using the simple bead stringing process. Get creative with your bead choices and opt for unusual colors and materials, like pearl or seed beads. Make magnetic necklaces a family project and have the kids design and make their own.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay your beads out in the pattern you want on the beading cord. Doing this ahead of time allows you to get a better picture of what the completed look is. Change the beads around to better fit your preferences.

    • 2

Cut a piece of beading cord to fit the desired length of your necklace. Add two inches to each side of your necklace to allow space for the magnetic clasp that must tied at the ends.

    • 3

Tie one end of the magnetic clasp around one end of the beading cord. Thread the beads onto the beading cord following the same order of your design.

    • 4

Tie the other end of your magnetic clasp around the opposite of the beading cord. Hold the beaded necklace upright while tying the magnetic clasp to the opposite end to prevent them from spilling out from the beading cord.

Tips & Warnings

  • Adding jeweler's glue over the knots used to hold the magnetic clasp will give your necklace extra security.
