Not only will you be spending a fair amount of time in the church, this could potentially be the church that you get married in or baptize your children in. 1
Choose the Presbyterian denomination that you would like to be apart of. The Presbyterian church is divided into several denominations, each one with slightly different beliefs. The Orthodox Presbyterian Church, for instance, is a more conservative denomination that is grounded in scripture; this denomination believes that the Bible is the authoritative word of God. The Presbyterian Church USA is the largest denomination, and is less conservative than the orthodox denomination. While the PCUSA also believes that its members can learn about God through the Bible, it has also taken liberal strides, such as working to lift a ban on homosexual ministers. Research the denominations to determine which one fits your beliefs the best.

2
Locate Presbyterian churches in your area through online searches, the phone book and personal recommendations. Most churches will have a website, and they should list the denomination clearly on the site. When you have a list of options, plan to attend services at each of the locations. Every church has a distinct personality, and the one of the only ways to discern that personality is to experience it yourself.

3
Research what programs the church has available. For instance, if you have children and want them to learn more about the faith, ensure that they church has youth programs, such as Sunday school or vacation bible school. If volunteering is your passion, ask if the church offers domestic or international mission trips. Also ask if the church members regularly volunteer with organizations, such as local food pantries or Habitat for Humanity.

4
Ask to speak with the pastor once you have narrowed down your choices. Prepare to discuss your beliefs and why you want to join the church, and work with the pastor to determine if the church's mission is in line with your own. Some Presbyterian churches also have new member classes, which will give you an overview of the Presbyterian faith and will highlight the opportunities you'll have by joining the particular church.
