How to Hide My Identity When on Facebook

Facebook is all about connecting with friends, and the instant chat feature lets users message each other in real time. When you prefer to remain invisible to your online friends, you can hide yourself with Facebook's "Go offline" privacy feature. It takes just a few steps to turn it on and off.

Instructions

1. Log in to your Facebook account.

2. Click the "Chat" option at the bottom of the page to open the instant chat box.

3. Select the "Options" tab and click "Go Offline" to hide your identity from friends currently online.

Tips & Warnings

• Your instant chat will say "Offline" when your identity is hidden from your friends. Repeat the process to reveal your identity and chat availability.
