How to Release Pent Up Emotions
Suppressing the emotions is one way to increase the level of stress you feel. Unfortunately, pent up emotions are the side effect from years of bending toward the acceptable standards society has created for human interaction. This suppression is normal, but so is the relaxation that should follow. However, many humans forget or do not learn to relax and release the pent up emotions. The result is stress, anxiety, weight gain, and other illnesses. Fortunately, there are many ways to release those pent up emotions, without abandoning society's standards.

Take an immediate time-out. Excuse yourself from the situation for a bathroom break or escape outside in order to get away from the situation. Away from the situation, you can cry, talk it out to yourself, scream or call someone to vent about what just happened. Your choice depends on the surroundings.

Write it all down. Journaling is a therapy tool that many psychologists use. Instead of keeping a regular journal, try to write a letter to the person at the crux of your pent up emotions. The act of writing will work to release those feelings from within you. Do not send the letter. burn it or throw it away. The exercise is the writing. Regular journaling will help you to maintain your emotional well-being in the future.

Engage in strenuous activity. Boxing, hockey and running are all activities that get your blood pressure up. They are also good ways to release the pent up emotions. During the activity, you are not holding back, controlling the emotions because you are too worried with competing, running, or completing the activity. This gives a great opportunity for the emotions to run out unhindered. Expect a little more aggression, speed and also some tears.

Try yoga. The exercise the syncs your body movements and breathing is great for relaxing the body enough to release the pent up emotions naturally. Yoga is a great way to train your body to relax. It is also a great workout.
