How to Play the Lotto in California
The California lottery is sold at more than 21,000 retailers throughout the state and supports California education. Playing the lottery is done in a variety of ways: you can purchase scratch-off tickets or lottery tickets for the major lottery drawings on different nights of the week. Playing the lottery is simple -- you purchase a ticket and hope it's a winner.

1
Go to any California lottery retailers such as convenience stores, gas stations and liquor stores (see Resources section). All sell tickets to anyone over the age of 18.
-
2
Pick out the type of lottery ticket you want (e.g. scratch-offs, which entail using a sharp object to scratch on the card and see if you're a winner). Each ticket is different and each game has different rules.

3
Complete a California SuperLotto ticket. Choose five numbers on the ticket, fill in the bubbles of the numbers you want to choose and hand the ticket to the cashier who will print a lottery ticket for you. You can fill out as many as you want or you can opt to play the SuperLotto by allowing the lottery machine operated by the cashier to choose five random numbers for you.
-
4
Pay for your lottery tickets; the price depends on the type of tickets you purchase. Cash is the only accepted method of payment for lottery tickets.
