The Anglican Church in America is similar to the Catholic or Episcopal churches.

The Anglican Church is represented in North America by several groups, but the group most closely aligned with traditional Anglican orthodoxy is the recently-established Anglican Church in North America. This group requires literal adherence to the Bible and acceptance of the precepts of the Apostles' and Nicene Creeds and the Book of Common Prayer. It most closely resembles the traditional Catholic Church in terms of its teachings, leadership and positions on social issues. You must follow some basic steps, including baptism in the church and regularly taking communion to become a member.

Instructions

  1. How to Join the American Anglican Church

    • 1

Go to the official website of the Anglican Church in America (ACA) and locate the diocese and congregation closest to where you live (www.acahome.org/diocese). Begin attending regular weekly services at the nearest ACA church.

    • 2

Contact the church office of the church you are attending; ask to speak to the bishop about officially joining the church. Nationally, requirements for joining are very basic, but there may be unique local requirements only an individual church's leader can explain. One example in 'References' below includes an application for membership which you sign and send in to the bishop of the Anglican Church of Virginia professing your belief in the Anglican tenets and committing yourself to the Church.

    • 3

Familiarize yourself with the Apostles' and Nicene Creed and the Anglican Book of Common Prayer. Along with the standard Catholic Bible, these provide the core of Anglican beliefs and practices. You must follow these precepts consistently and accept the Bible as the literal word of God and His direct guidance for His followers.

Be baptised in the ACA and partake in Holy Communion on a weekly basis. Attend services at your ACA congregation every week on Sundays; some dioceses also have Evensong services during the week which you should attend on a semi-regular basis.
