Kids are notorious for being picky about their food. One day they love what you give them, the next they want nothing to do with it. Get the kids interested in their food by involving them in the kitchen. Using food coloring allows the children to learn, experimenting with colors and ingredients. One way to use food coloring is to make monster toast, which allows kids to paint monster faces on their toast before eating. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 1 slice white bread
  • Food coloring (red, blue, yellow, green)
  • Milk
  • Small paintbrush
  • 4 small bowls

Instructions

    • 1

      Fill each bowl about halfway with milk.

      Add 1 to 2 drops of a different food coloring in each of the bowls. Stir until the milk turns the color of the food coloring.

      Paint the colored milk onto the white bread with a paint brush. Encourage the kids to be as creative as they would like painted monster faces or anything they would like.

      Place the bread in a toaster oven to toast.

      Spread butter on the colorful toast if you like and enjoy.

Tips & Warnings

  • Show the kids how to lightly dip the paintbrush into the milk so as not to make the bread too soggy.

  • Feel free to use any colors of food coloring to paint the toast with.
