How to Download and Run Firefox in Ubuntu 10.04

Ubuntu 10.04 is a Linux-based operating system similar in look and feel to Microsoft Windows. However, Ubuntu is free to download and use. In addition, hundreds of open-source applications, including the Firefox browser, may be downloaded and run in Ubuntu 10.04, or any version of Ubuntu. Ubuntu is installed with the Ubuntu Software Center. This application provides an easy-to-use GUI for downloading and installing additional applications. Use the Ubuntu Software Center to install Firefox in Ubuntu.

Instructions

      Click the "Applications" option on the top taskbar in Ubuntu.

      Click the "Ubuntu Software Center" link. The Ubuntu Software Center interface opens.

      Type "Firefox," without quotes, into the "Search" box and press the "Search" button. The search results list the Firefox browser. Click the "Firefox" entry to display details in the right-bottom pane.

      Click "Install" in the Firefox "Details" page. If the "Install" button is not available, click "More Information" and then click "Install." Firefox will download and install to the Ubuntu system.

      Click the "In Progress" link in the left navigation pane in the Ubuntu Software Center to monitor the progress of the download and installation. When Firefox is completely installed, a "Remove" button will replace the "Install" button.

      Click the "Applications" option on the top taskbar, and then click "Internet." Click the "Firefox" option to run the Firefox browser in Ubuntu. Alternatively, click the "Firefox" icon on the top taskbar, if installed.

Tips & Warnings

  • To uninstall Firefox, click the "Remove" button that replaced the "Install" button.
