How to Hide Hidden Files in FileZilla Client

Using the hidden files feature in FileZilla helps make the list of files smaller and prevents you from accidentally deleting important system files. FileZilla is a free File Transfer Protocol client that runs on multiple operating systems including Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and Berkeley Software Design. It allows for the quick uploading of files from your computer to a server, Web host account or another computer through an Internet connection. By default, FileZilla does not show hidden files, but if the setting somehow is accidentally turned on, manually turn it back off again.

  • Open the FileZilla FTP client.

  • Click the "Server" menu and click the "Force Showing Hidden Files" option if it has a check next to it, otherwise leave it alone. In older FileZilla versions, click the "View Menu" and ensure the "Show Hidden File" option is not checked.

  • Press the "F5" key on your keyboard to refresh FileZilla. Hidden files, such as Apache ".htaccess" files, should no longer be visible. Restart FileZilla if you can still see hidden files.
