How to Shrink a Picture With GIMP
GIMP is a photo editing program available for free on the Internet. While the program is not exactly the same as Photoshop, it will allow you to do a number of tasks similar to Photoshop. Using GIMP, you can shrink a picture so it can be used online or printed on a smaller size paper. When you are editing a picture, save it as an separate file so you retain the original picture for future use.

Open GIMP on your computer.

Click "File" and select "Open" from the drop-down menu. Navigate to your pictures folder and open the picture you want to shrink.

Click "Image" in the navigation bar and select "Scale Image" from the drop-down menu. A new smaller window will open up on top of the image you opened.

Type the value in the "Width" box to the new size you want. The program will automatically adjust the "Height" to match the number you selected. You can also shrink the size by clicking the box to the right of the "Width" and "Height" box and change the value to "Percent," then enter the percentage of size for you new picture. If you wanted the new picture to be half the size of the original, you would enter "50" in the "Width" box and the program will automatically adjust the "Height" value.
