Verifying account settings dramatically speeds up POP 3 performance.

POP 3 email allows you to remotely check and send email using another account and server. It is particularly useful when an email software, such as Outlook, is being used to check Internet mail accounts, such as Gmail, Yahoo or Hotmail. The key to a successful connection and increased speed is in the settings. Ensure the proper information is entered in the appropriate places and this should resolve most issues with a slow connection.

Instructions

    • 1

Adjust the frequency of automatic receiving and sending. Within your POP 3 email account, go to settings. Look for a setting similar to "Send-Receive Frequency," usually found on the "Tools" or "Options" settings. Select the most frequent time available. Save your settings.

    • 2

Double check your POP 3 email account settings. Log in to the main account, from which you are checking and receiving the original emails. Use the help section or account settings to ensure that POP 3 is enabled. Note the settings provided for "Incoming Mail Server," "Outgoing Mail Server" and "SMTP authorization." If prompted, ensure that POP 3 is enabled on the original email account. Verify that you note any "SSL Port" numbers as well.

Open your POP 3 email account and insert the new settings from your original email account into the POP 3 email account settings. Enable "SSL Port" if your original email account uses SSL settings. Enter any appropriate port numbers as needed. Confirm that all fields match. Update your credentials, such as login username and password for your original email account, so that these also match. Save your settings.
