How to Make a Weekly Unemployment Claim Via the Internet

If you are unemployed, you must make weekly or biweekly certification claims through your state unemployment office. These claims are to certify that you are still unemployed and actively looking for employment on your own. Typically, the labor department in your state will offer more than one method for filing your claim form, such as filing on the Web. The basic process for doing so is the same in each state.

Instructions

1. Log on to your state unemployment office's website to file your claim within the specified time limit. Typically, the earliest you can file the claim online is Sunday of the following week; the latest is the following Friday by the end of the day. Exact time periods vary by state.

2. Sign in to the online system using your username and password. In some states, you need a PIN instead of a password. Click on the link to register a new account if this is your first time filing a weekly claim online.

3. Read through and answer the questions on the online claim form. The form is identical to the one you get by mail. The questions relate to your work search efforts.

4. Review your answers and make a selection for taxes. Click on the box to have income tax withheld from your benefit payment, if you so desire. Submit the form after you are certain that you have entered all the information correctly. Write down the confirmation number that appears on the screen, in case there are any problems with the submission.
