How to Find a Lobbyist in California
The Secretary of State in California is responsible for keeping an up-to-date list of all California lobbyists. In order to find the correct lobbyist, a few different organizations exist of the list including breaking the list down by firm. All official lobbyists do have a registration number and can be found via number as well.

Locating Individual Lobbyists

Log on to the California Secretary of State website at: cal-access.ss.ca.gov/Lobbying.

Click on the "Individual Lobbyists" tab. This will bring up a list of all the lobbyists by name. This is an effective way to locate a lobbyist if you know the person's first and last name.

Choose the appropriate letter representing the lobbyist's last name. Then scroll down until you locate the name.

Click on the name of the lobbyist. This will bring up a screen listing all of the contact information for the lobbyist as well as the organization the person is associated with. You can also access all lobbying activities of this registered person and note the registration number of the lobbyist.
Locate Lobbyist Employers

Locate the particular lobby or company you are seeking. If you are looking to find out who represents a particular city, company or alliance you should write down a few options of what the organization might be called.

Log on to the California Secretary of State website at: cal-access.ss.ca.gov/Lobbying.

Click on the "Lobbyist Employers" link. This brings up a list of all the employers of lobbyists from Alaska Airlines to the Zoological Society of San Diego. If you know the type of organization this is the best way to locate a lobbyist.

Pick the first letter of the organization's name. This should not count words such as "the."

Click on the name of the organization. This will take you to the information about the organization including the filing status and contact information. If the organization has a firm it will be listed here. Click on the Firm list or individual names in order to find the lobbyists working for this organization. If a firm is mentioned you will also get a complete list of the lobbyist firm's other clients.

Tips & Warnings
You can also access the activities of individuals spending $5,000 or more to influence the state government. These are people who do not employ a lobbyist and do no contract with a lobbying firm.
Sorting by Lobbying Firms is also possible. This gives you a full list of the firms in California and all the lobbies each firm represents.
The lobbies can band together in an attempt to divert attention for particular actions. If you are looking for a particular lobbyist you might have to find the person by seeking the lobby you last knew them to represent.
