How to Make a Russian Net Necklace
Russian net necklaces consist of beads that are strung into a diamond patterned mesh or net that hangs down from the necklace's main string of beads. You can make your own Russian net necklace with round beads that are a color of your choice or with two different colored seed beads. When you become comfortable with the thread weaving pattern that is required to create a net necklace, you can create smaller, intricate net patterns with seed beads.
Things You'll Need
- Nylon beading thread, 74-inch
- Beading needle, size 10
- Seed beads
- 2 bead tips
- 250 round beads, 3-millimeter
- Focal beads
- Bead thread glue
- Flat nosed pliers
- Jump rings, 2
- Necklace clasp

1
String a seed bead onto the nylon beading thread and slide it all the way down to the end. Tie a knot around the bead and leave 1 inch on the end. String on a bead tip and slide it down to the seed bead. Do not close the bead tip at this time.

2
String on an odd number of round beads that is 36-inches in total length to make the main string of beads for the necklace. String on a bead tip with its cavity facing away from the strung beads. String on a seed bead. Insert the thread back though the seed bead. Move the seed bead into the bead tip cavity. Insert the thread back through the seed bead and bead tip three times. Tie a half-hitch knot around the bead tip to secure it.

Insert the thread into the bead tip with needle facing the main bead strand and pull it through. Insert the thread through all of the beads until you reach the center bead. Insert the thread through the center bead. String on 12 round beads. String on a focal bead. Insert the thread back through the last round bead and pull it through.

4
String on five round beads. Count six beads up from the focal bead and insert the thread through the sixth bead. Pull the thread through to create a diamond shape with the string of beads.
-
5
String on five round beads. Insert the thread through the main bead string's center bead and pull it through to make another diamond. Insert the thread into the two adjacent beads to the left of the main string's center bead. String on two round beads. Insert the thread through the third round bead of the first string you threaded down to make a diamond with. Pull the thread through. String on five round beads. Insert the thread through the third bead down from the junction bead of the first diamond of the netting (the ninth bead down from the center bead) and pull it through.

6
Insert the thread through the beads all the way down to the focal bead. Insert the thread up through the beads to the fourth round bead up from the focal bead and pull it through. String on five round beads, insert the thread through the third bead down from the main string of beads of the necklace. String on two round beads, then insert the thread through the round bead on the main string of beads (the third bead to the right of the center bead).

7
Insert the thread back through the same bead. String on five round beads. Insert the thread through the left bead string's sixth bead. Pull the thread through. String on three round beads and a focal bead. Insert the thread back through the last round bead and pull it through. String on five beads. Insert the thread through the third bead down from the main strand of beads. String on two beads. Insert the thread through the main bead three beads over from the previous main strand bead you threaded and pull it through.

Bring the thread around to the other side of the net by inserting it through the beads in a V pattern until you reach the far right main bead that has a net bead string attached to it. Continue adding beads in the same pattern, making smaller lengths of diamond netting as you progress across the main string of beads of the necklace. The netting should have a row of seven diamond mesh, a row beneath it of four diamond mesh, and the last row having only one diamond mesh so that the beaded net makes a V shape that looks like an upside down series of mountains.

9
Insert the thread through the main strand bead and pass it through the beads all the way to the end of the necklace. Insert it through the other bead tip and tie a knot around the seed bead. Use glue to secure the knot. Trim the ends. Bend the circle on the bead tips shut with flat nosed pliers. Use jump rings to attach a clasp to the necklace.

Tips & Warnings
If you like, you can continue making small triangles with focal beads to line the rest of the necklace with.
