How to Learn the Georgian Alphabet
The Georgian language uses an alphabet called the Mkhedruli alphabet. This alphabet does not have capital letters and it is written, like the English alphabet, from the left to the right. The order of the letters in the Mkhedruli alphabet follow that of the Greek alphabet; however, it includes some consonants that do not have corresponding Greek letters; these appear at the end of the alphabet. There are 33 letters in the alphabet and anyone who is interested can learn them with some effort, practice and patience.

1
Locate a chart of the Georgian Mkhedruli alphabet. Copy or print the chart. There is a downloadable chart that includes International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) symbols with the corresponding sounds for each letter at the Omniglot website. Alternatively, check your local public library or a nearby college library to find a travel or history book about Georgia that includes a chart of the Georgian Mkhedruli alphabet.

2
Find and print or copy an IPA chart so that you can learn the corresponding sounds for each IPA symbol. The IPA symbols are universal and apply to the sounds of all languages and alphabets. There is a printable IPA chart available at the esl-lounge website. There are also IPA books available at many libraries and bookstores.

3
Practice pronouncing the sounds for each letter of the Georgian Mkhedruli alphabet as they correspond to the IPA symbol sounds. Once you have the sounds down, you can combine them to learn the pronunciation of the names of the letters. This will allow you to verbalize the Georgian alphabet letters individually, as is done with the English alphabet "ABCs."
-
4
Practice writing the letters of the Georgian Mkhedruli alphabet. This may take numerous attempts, similar to first learning to write the English alphabet. Once you feel like you have the writing of the alphabet letters down, make flash cards with the Georgian Mkhedruli alphabet letters on one side and the corresponding letter names and sounds on the other side.
-
5
Review the flash cards from both the Georgian Mkhedruli alphabet letter-side and the IPA sound-side numerous times. Mix the cards up between reviews. Repeat as many times as needed until you can look at the Georgian Mkhedruli alphabet letters and verbalize their names and associated sounds.
-
6
Put the flash cards in the same order as the Georgian Mkhedruli alphabet and practice reciting the alphabet in its proper order. You should now be able to sing the Georgian version of the alphabet song.
