Instructions

    • 1

Choose a base for the spider's body. This can be a single cup from an egg carton, a black pom-pom or a large Styrofoam ball. Paint the egg carton and Styrofoam ball with black acrylic craft paint and let them dry before continuing.

Make spider legs out of black pipe cleaners. Bend eight pipe cleaners to look like legs and attach them to the body. For the egg carton spider, flip it over so the rounded part is on top and create holes with the screwdriver. Poke the pipe cleaners through the holes to look like legs. Use toothpicks to create holes in the Styrofoam ball that will hold pipe cleaner legs or glue the pipe cleaners to the pom-pom with tacky craft glue.

Create a lovable spider face. Glue big, googly eyes on to a smaller foam ball for the Styrofoam spider, then stick the head on to the body with a toothpick. Glue eyes on the egg carton cup and the pom-pom the same way. Use foam stickers to make funny features like big lips or eyelashes.

Place your spider in a fake web or have a parade of spiders walking down your table, in the windowsills or on the mantle. Make spiders of different sizes to create a spider family or make silly spiders by gluing on other embellishments that look like hats, hair or clothing.
