How to Draw Speed Boats
If you are on vacation and have taken a shine to the speed boats, then try drawing one. It is a great way to preserve memories, and practice capturing movement of water and motion in drawing. The most difficult aspect of this exercise is being able to draw the contours of the speed boat, while showing that it is moving quickly in the sea. Focus on the basic outline of the boat first, then sketch the water around it.

1
Assess the shape, style and proportions of the speed boat. Some boats have canopies covering a seated area, while others are small and compact.
-
2
Draw a horizontal line two thirds from the top of your page to show the level of the water.
-
-
3
Use a series of dots to plan where to position the boat. Place a dot where the tip of the bow is, where the back of the boat is, at the wheel and where the bottom of the boat makes contact with the water.
-
4
Connect the dots together to create an outline of the basic speed boat shape. Boats are different styles, so bend or curve the lines to show the boat's form. Make sure you angle the front of the boat upwards, away from the water line to show that it is bouncing along the surface.
-
5
Fill in details of the speed boat. Engines, seating or a glass fronted cabin could be part of the design, so now include these in the basic framework.
-
6
Add dimension and contour to the speed boat by shading it. Underneath the helm and hull are key areas which are to be shaded as the sunlight will be blocked by the shape of the boat. Simply layer a series of parallel lines, then smudge them with your pencil to blend the pencil marks. This will create a smooth shadowed effect.
-
7
Sketch waves around the rear and in front of the speed boat. As it tears through the water, waves will ripple behind the boat, so draw these by sketching shallow curves in an inverted "V" shape from the back of the boat. At the front, add larger waves bouncing off the side of the hull.

Tips & Warnings
You can also create the initial structure of the speed boat using a series of parallel lines. Draw a straight line for the bottom of the boat, with a longer line directly above it which runs from its tip to its rear end. Then, add a shorter line above this line for the top. Connect the framework together with angled lines.
