How to Make Square Crochet Blankets

Crochet a pretty square blanket for a loved one to cherish.

Crocheting a square shaped blanket or afghan is not difficult to do. You do not have to stick to crocheting a huge granny square either. Whichever crochet pattern stitch you like will be fine to use. Any rectangle crocheted blanket pattern will conform to a square one just by adjusting the math of the row count correctly. Do not be afraid to create an heirloom crochet square blanket for yourself or a loved one.

Instructions

    • 1

Crochet a chain of 200 for an adult sized square blanket. (If you feel this chain is too long for what you want, then shorten it.) Work any favorite crochet pattern stitch you like into the chain to the beginning. Turn your work at the end of the row and continue as your pattern instructs.

Make 200 rows (for a beginning chain of 200) of your crocheted pattern stitch to make the blanket square shape. Remember; however many chain stitches you originally made is the number of rows you need to crochet in order to make an even square. If you crocheted a chain of 150, make 150 rows to create a square blanket.

Fasten off at the end of the last row and work in yarn ends to hide them. Add yarn fringe or a favorite crocheted border if you wish.
