How to Do a Middle French Braid
Several variations of the French braid exist including the middle French braid, twin braids and that simple plait that hangs down the back. All French braids are created by plaiting three strands of hair together, but the placement of the braid and where the hair is pulled from varies among the styles. Middle French braids take about five minutes to do, so they are great for adding style when you don't have a lot of time. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Comb the hair thoroughly to remove all the tangles. Section off a 1-inch-by-2-inch area near the top front hairline. Divide the section into three even strands. Keep the strands separated by spreading them and holding them apart with the fingers of both hands.

2
Take the strand on the far right side and pull it over the middle strand, making the right strand become the middle strand. Pull the strand on the far left to the middle, making it the middle strand. Hold all the strands taut and apart.

3
Start working hair from the sides into the strands as you braid. Create 1/2-inch, horizontal sections that run from the front hairline up to the braid. Comb the hair from the section into the closest strand before putting that strand in the middle of the other two.
-
4
Alternate sides, adding hair and pulling the outside strand to the middle until you plait all the hair down the back of the head.
-
5
Clench all the hair at the base of the neck and secure with a ponytail holder.
-
6
Make adjustments to the braid with the tail of the comb, pushing the plait to even it up and working errant hairs into the braid. Comb the sides of the braid up into the plait to smooth out the look and remove the lines from the section partings.
