Canceling your wireless service with AT&T will disconnect your mobile phone number and discontinue all services from the company to the device. There are several details to keep in mind if you plan on canceling service with AT&T, including your contract end date and porting options. Cancellations are generally processed the last day of your billing cycle.

      Wait until two or three days before the end of your billing cycle. Canceling service mid-cycle may result in prorated charges and additional charges.

      Contact AT&T customer service on the phone by calling 800-331-0500 or dialing 611 from your AT&T mobile phone. You can also visit an AT&T wireless retail location to cancel your service.

      Inquire about your contract end date and any early termination fees associated with canceling your service. Customers who established service prior to June 1, 2010 have early-termination fees that start at $175 and decrease $5 for each full month of service completed with AT&T. Lines of service that were established prior to June 1, 2010, will have a fee of $325 that decreases $10 for each month of service, or a fee of $150 that decreases $4 for each month of service, depending on the type of device you originally purchased.

      Advise AT&T's wireless customer service department that you are canceling service. Have them confirm the cancellation date and update any necessary billing information.

      Confirm your cancellation of AT&T wireless service with a final wireless statement. Pay any outstanding balances to avoid future collection issues.

  • Complete the port out process prior to canceling your AT&T wireless service. If you cancel service without porting your mobile number, the number will be lost.
