How to Turn off the Router on My AT&T U-verse 2Wire Gateway

U-verse 2wire gateways provide advanced broadband router, modem and firewall functions in a single unit. Turning off the U-verse 2wire gateway prevents all computers on your local area network from connecting to the Internet and to each other. Powering down the router is sometimes necessary during maintenance or adjustments to your home network. You might also turn off your router in the event of a software problem.

  • Take a look around the back of the router. There are several cables connected to various inputs.

  • Find the cable marked "Power" on the far left side of the router.

  • Pull out the cable. The router immediately turns off.
