How to Import a Color Pallet Into Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop provides a default set of colors to choose from when you open the program, but these colors may not match your needs for a design you are creating. If you want to add colors to the palette, you can import a set of colors from an existing file you have saved on the computer. This allows you to quickly add a set of colors you saved in another Adobe application or downloaded on the Internet.

  • Open Adobe Photoshop.

  • Click the "Window" menu in Photoshop and locate the option labeled "Swatches". If there is not a check mark next to "Swatches" click on it to place a check mark and enable the Swatches panel.

  • Click the down arrow on the Swatches panel to open the options menu. The Swatches panel is located on the right side of the Photoshop window.

  • Click "Load Swatches" or "Replace Swatches" in the options menu. If you want to keep the existing colors with your imported colors, click "Load Swatches". If you only want the imported colors to appear on the panel, click "Replace Swatches".

  • Navigate to the file you want to import and click on it, then click "Load". The imported colors now appear on the Swatches panel.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can import colors from multiple files to the palette and save all the colors as one set. With the colors saved as one set, you can quickly load them all again at any time.
