How to Make a Substitute for Yellow Food Coloring
"Artificial colors and dyes have been used for many years," says Dr. Jeffrey Morrison, MD but as of March 2011 they "have come under review by the FDA." The FDA has begun to label all foods containing dyes with a warning. Because of this, people may search for natural alternatives to food coloring. There are some natural food coloring companies, but you can create your own dyes at home using natural ingredients. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Add about two cups of water to the sauce pot and place on the stove. Once the water has begun to boil, remove it from the heat.

Pour a cup of the water into a bowl, and mix it with the turmeric until it reaches the preferred shade. Add more of the water or turmeric as necessary to adjust the color.

Add to foods for coloring, as you would traditional food coloring. Store extra coloring in a glass storage container in the refrigerator.

Tips & Warnings
Use stale turmeric for less of an aroma.
Balance out the scent by using it to color foods with other aromatic scents, like banana or lemon.
