How to Sync a Movie From a Computer to an iPad

Save

The iPad is a tablet computer capable of running assorted applications, as well as playing music and video files. While you can download some media files directly to your iPad, you may wish to transfer a movie from your computer to your iPad. Fortunately Apple freely distributes a program call iTunes that can be used to sync content on your computer with your iPad. Once the iPad is connected to the computer and the movie is added to iTunes you will be able to sync that movie to your iPad.

  • Open a web browser window and navigate to the iTunes download page at apple.com

  • Click "Download Now" and then save the file to your computer.

  • Double-click the downloaded file, and then follow the prompts to complete the installation.

  • Connect the large end of your iPad USB cable to the port on the bottom of the iPad.

  • Connect the other end of the USB cable to a USB port on your computer. The iTunes program will open automatically once the device is recognized by your computer.

  • Click "File" at the top of the window, and then click "Add file to library".

  • Browse to the movie that you wish to sync with your iPad, and then click "Open".

  • Click your iPad in the "Devices" section of the column on the left side of the window. This will switch the center iTunes panel to your iPad settings screen.

  • Click "Movies" at the top of the center panel.

  • Check the box to the left of "Sync Movies".

  • Click "Sync" at the bottom of the window.

Tips & Warnings

  • Movie files can be up to several GB in size and the iPad has a limited amount of memory. To select only specific movies to sync to your iPad, click your iPad under the "Devices" section, and then click "Movies". Click "Sync Movies" and then click "Only selected movies". You can then select the movies that you wish to sync with your iPad.
