Step 1

Check the basics first. Make sure your cordless system is plugged in to a power supply and the handset you are using has enough charge. Ensure the base of your cordless system is plugged in to the telephone wall socket. If you have spare telephone, try plugging it into the telephone socket and making a test call. This will rule out problems with the phone line. Reset your VTech phone by unplugging the base from the power and disconnecting all handset batteries for 15 seconds.

Step 2

Make sure you qualify to receive all the features available with your Dect 6.0 phone. The call waiting and caller ID service will not work on the handset unless it has been set up with your telephone service provider. An envelope icon may appear on your screen if you use your service provider's answering service. Contact your provider if you are not receiving services you expect.

Step 3

Make sure the cordless handset is close enough to the base station if an "Out of Range" or "No Power at Base" message appears on the screen. Consider relocating your base station if problems persist. Make sure the base is not positioned next to wireless routers, radios, intercoms, televisions, cell phones, computers and kitchen appliances.

Step 4

Make sure the answering machine is switched on and has enough free memory to record new messages. "ANS ON" will appear on the screen when the answering machine is active. Press "X/Delete" on the answering machine base to erase all old messages. If messages are incomplete, the caller may have spoken too quietly or for too long. Press the "^Vol" button on the base to increase message playback the volume. Ensure you are entering the correct access code on a touch-tone phone if you cannot listen to your messages remotely.
