How to Change Discs on a PSX Emulator

PSX is the abbreviation for the original Sony PlayStation video game console. The original PSX was a game changer in the video game industry as it not only welcomed a new player in Sony, but it also saw the introduction of the CD medium for video games. As of 2011, PSX games and systems are no longer manufactured and playing them could be hard if you do not have the necessary hardware. One option is to use a PSX hardware emulator on your computer. The PSX emulator turns your computer into a PSX, so to speak, where you can use disk image files in place of actual disks. Multiple disc games are no problem for the emulator as the option is included within the PSX emulator's menu.

  • Wait until you are prompted by the PSX emulator to change discs in order to move on in the game. This does not necessarily take place in the middle of the game as the CD's are only capable of 650 megabytes.

  • Click the "Load" button on the topline menu and click the "Eject" option to eject the PSX disc. This does not literally eject the disc as you are using a disc image file and not an actual disc. It merely unmounts the disc image from the emulator.

  • Click the "Change Disc" option on the same "Load" menu as the "Eject" option. A new window will come up. Locate the second disk image and select it in the new window.

  • Click the "OK" button to load disk two into the PSX emulator. Wait as the emulator detects and loads the disk. The game will restart on its own or you will be asked to press a specific button on the PSX controller. Continue this same process if there are more disks as you progress in the game.
