How to Catch Pikachu in "Soul Silver"

In the "Pokemon" series, Pikachu is an Electric-type Pokemon that resembles a small rodent. Since the video game based franchise began, this Pokemon has become one of its leading mascots, even appearing regularly in the animated television show. In "Pokemon SoulSilver," you catch a Pikachu to your team by visiting the Viridian Forest in the Kanto region. Initially, the Pokemon will be too weak to contribute to your team, but, with training, he grows to learn strong attacks such as Slam and Thunder.

  • Travel to the Viridian Forest. To find the area, travel north from Viridian City or south from Pewter City until you reach Route 2. Enter the large cluster of trees to explore the maze-like forest.

  • Walk through the tall grass of the Viridian Forest until you encounter a Pikachu. During the morning and daylight hours, you have a six percent chance of finding a Pikachu. At night, your chances drop to five percent. The Pokemon range from levels four to seven.

  • Enter a battle with Pikachu. If you have a Great Ball or Ultra Ball, you should have an easy time catching the low level Pokemon. At this point in the game, most of your Pokemon should be at a much higher level than the Pikachu, so avoid using an attack that knocks him out. Instead, use a status-impairing move, such as Hypnosis, which puts him to sleep, or Thunderwave, which paralyzes the Pokemon.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sometimes, a wild Pikachu will come with a Light Ball. The item will double the Pikachu's attack and special attack power, so don't take it away from your electric mouse Pokemon.
  • You can use a Thunderstone to evolve Pikachu in Raichu. Raichu is faster and stronger than its predecessor; however, Raichu doesn't learn any new moves as it gains experience. Wait until your Pikachu has learned a few attacks before you use the Thunderstone. You can win a Thunderstone by coming in first at the National Park's Bug Catching Contest in Johto.
