How to Wash a Visor

Visors are a head accessory that can be used to block the sun. Visors are worn by many, whether it be on the tennis court, at a sports game, when lounging by the pool or while relaxing and reading a book outdoors. Just like hats and other accessories, the visor needs cleaned when buildup accumulates. Whether you have a hard visor surface or a soft fabric, you must properly clean and care for the visor in a way that causes no damage.

Things You'll Need

  • Laundry detergent
  • Water
  • Cleaning rags
  • Baseball cap holder
  • Dishwasher
  • Washing machine
  • Dishwasher detergent

Washing Hard Visors

  • Run a cleaning rag under warm water and rub off any sticky residue.

  • Add a drop of laundry detergent to the rag for tougher buildup and continue rubbing over the visor.

  • Wipe down the entire visor with a damp rag and dry with a clean rag to remove excess moisture.

Cleaning Fabric Visors

  • Place the visor into a baseball cap holder and lock the unit into place. These are shaped a bit larger than baseball caps and have the look of a cage. These units protect the shape of the visor while it is washed.

  • Place the visor into the dishwasher with dishwasher detergent, or place into the washing machine with laundry detergent. Let the wash cycle complete.

  • Remove the visor from the cap holder and lay flat to air dry. Do not put it in the dryer.
