How to Use Metro PCS Memory Card

Save

MetroPCS offers 2GB, 4GB and 8GB SanDisk memory cards to be used inside of compatible phones. The cards can be used to store pictures, games, videos and music on the phone. The memory cards come with a bonus USB disc reader that can be attached to the phone, which enables you to use the memory card with a computer as well for easier transfer of files between the phone and the computer.

  • Place the card inside of the phone first. Depending on the model of phone, you may need to push the memory card into a slot on the side of the phone or place into a mechanism underneath the battery. Slots on the side of the phone will be located inside a small door. The door can be opened by slipping a fingernail under the tab and rotating the door slightly towards the front of the phone. For slots under the batter, the battery cover can be removed by sliding the cover off. Once removed, pull the battery up and out of its seating.

  • Format the card for use on the phone. A screen inquiring if you would like to format the card will pop up on the phone once the card is detected. Click “Yes” and allow the process to complete. The card is then ready to use.

  • Go to the settings menu in the phone and then storage. Options are available to make the storage card the default location to store all downloaded files. Choosing this setting will keep your phones performance faster as you collect more files. As you download individual files to the phone, you will also be given the option to save the files to the card.

  • Remove the card from the phone. Place the memory card into the provided reader. The reader is the round, MetroPCS gadget that was included in the package with the card. The reader includes a USB port that will enable the small card to be plugged into the computer. Lift the door on top of the reader and slide the card inside. Then extend the rectangular USB plug and place into any USB port on the computer.

  • Plug the reader into the computer and wait for the software to load so the card can be read by the computer. Depending on your operating system, a box may pop up in the lower right hand corner indicating when the device is ready to use.

  • Open “My Computer” and click the drive location assigned to the card. You will see all the files loaded on the card and be able to copy and paste those files directly to your computer. You can also add new files to the card using the copy and paste methods.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some phones automatically set up designated folders when formatting the card. If your phone has done so, make sure to copy all music files to the “Music” folder and all picture files to the “Picture” folder, etc. Otherwise, you may have difficulty locating and using the files on the phone.
