How to Hook Up My PlayStation 3 to Get Internet With Comcast Cable

Save

Comcast uses a cable Internet connection that can be used by the PlayStation 3 (PS3). An Internet connection with PS3 has access to the PlayStation Network, Sony's online multiplayer matchmaking and content service for the PS3. You can connect directly to the Comcast cable modem via an Ethernet cable. If the modem is connected to a wireless router, you connect to it via the PS3's built-in wireless adapter.

Direct Connection

  • Turn the PS3 off. Connect an Ethernet cable into the "Ethernet" port on the back of the PS3 and into the "WAN/Internet" port on the modem.

  • Turn the PS3 on. Use the directional pad on the controller to go to the "Settings" menu. Select "Network Settings" and press the "X" button. Scroll down to Internet Connection, press the "X" button and select "Enabled."

  • Scroll down to Internet Connection Settings. Press the "X" button. Select "Yes" when asked if you want to continue. Select "Easy" as the connection and press the "X" button. After the PS3 detects the connection, press the "X" button to save the settings.

  • Select "Test Connection" and press the "X" button. After the test is successful, the PS3 will use the connection automatically when connecting to PSN.

Wireless Connection

  • Turn the PS3 on. Use the directional pad on the controller to go to the "Settings" menu. Select "Network Settings" and press the "X" button. Scroll down to Internet Connection, press the "X" button and select "Enabled."

  • Scroll down to Internet Connection Settings. Press the "X" button. Select "Yes" when asked if you want to continue. Select "Easy" as the connection and press the "X" button. Select "Wireless" as the connection type.

  • Select "Scan" and press the "X" button to begin searching for wireless networks. Select the name of your wireless network and press the "X" button. Press "Right" on the directional pad.

  • Enter the password for the wireless network (if it has one). Press the "X" button to save the settings.

  • Select "Test Connection" and press the "X" button. After the test is successful, the PS3 will use the connection automatically when connecting to PSN.
