How to Persuade People to Save the Rainforest
Rainforest destruction is an issue that affects almost everyone, but not everyone care about it the way they should. Getting people to care about something you believe in requires the right approach. You are trying to sell them the idea to better the planet, but you are also selling yourself. Knowing how to talk to people and convey the message you want to deliver is a great asset into recruiting more activists toward the rainforest cause.

1
Provide examples about how little changes can make a big impact. If the person is planning a visit to the rainforest, explain how to be a good tourist. Do not take home souvenirs such as flowers; take pictures instead. Take tours that are certified ecologically sensitive. If you are looking for monetary donations, discuss what that contribution will be used for and how even the smallest donation could help in a major way. Also explain how the issue relates to them, even if they live nowhere near a rainforest.

2
Be friendly. Remember that first impressions are huge factors in whether someone will listen to your environmental pitch. Dress appropriately and be well-groomed. Smile while you are talking with them. Listen to the other person's counterpoints and address questions with authority and sincerity. If you do not know the answer, get the person's phone number or e-mail address so you follow up later with the correct information.

3
Accept rejection. If someone does not want to listen to your pitch about the rainforest, then smile politely and hand them a flier. While you cannot guarantee that they will read the information you provided them, you did not force the issue upon them.

4
Promote further education. Pass out brochures that provide information about the plight of rainforests. Make sure your information is up to date. Set up a social networking profile on Facebook and MySpace and provide information through messages and status updates. Discuss how being an informed citizen is the best way to save the rainforest, because that knowledge enables you to aid the cause.
