How to Accept a Request in Google Docs

The Google Docs service is an online word-processing service that allows you to create documents and spreadsheets from a Gmail account. Other Gmail users can access these documents, but require permission to access locked documents. Requests to share are sent to the invitee's email address. As a guest you are limited to either viewing the files as read-only or editing the files as read-and-write.

  • Open your email client (Outlook Express, Apple Mail, etc) and double-click the email message from the inviter.

  • Click the link in the "I shared..." section to be directed to the user's Google Docs account. The document appears in a new browser window, and shows who is viewing the file in the top-right corner of the window.

  • Click "Save" in the top-left corner to save any changes made to the document, or click "Documents" to return to the user's main Google Documents window. Files that are restricted have a lock icon next to them.

  • Close the browser window to exit out of the inviter's Google Docs page.
