People often seek new jobs, within their own company or in another company. Most people want a job that provides satisfaction, but is challenging and offers opportunity for self-growth. In deciding what job is ideal for you, consult all available resources. Fortunately, there are many resources available to help you find your perfect job.

      Self-Assessment. Evaluate the skills and education needed for the types of jobs you are considering. Ensure that your skills and qualifications meet the requirements for the position. Seek further training or return to school to work toward a degree, if additional education or skills are needed.

      Take a career aptitude test. Taking a career aptitude test can give you an indication of what jobs match your personality, and which careers you may have an aptitude for. There are many free career aptitude tests available online, including What Career is Right for Me, to help you determine what type of job matches your career interests and abilities. College students have free access to the career center services at their college or university, including administration of the career aptitude test. Students who have graduated within the last year are also eligible for free access to a career aptitude test.

      Know your personality type. Knowing your personality type can help you identify jobs for you. Complete the Myer-Briggs Type Indicator assessment to help you match your personality type with jobs. The Myer-Briggs Type Indicator can be used as an indicator of job satisfaction, but should not be used to predict job performance. The personality test can be found at most bookstores and libraries. There is free access to the test on the websites Digital Citizen and Goddess Flight.

      Ask people who work in the field to help you assess the pros and cons of a particular job. Often, work is more demanding than the job description. Consult with someone working in a job of interest to provide you with feedback before pursuing a particular job. It will offer some knowledge of the position's work responsibilities and its potential for career growth. Feedback from people who work in a field of interest will help you to assess whether or not a particular position is what you are seeking for in a job.

      Ask friends and family for advice. Friends and family are able to offer candid, practical advice. By knowing you personally, they can offer ideas from a different perspective.

      Consider your hobbies and interests. Ultimately, you want to be satisfied in your job. Satisfaction in the work place will result in higher success. A safe measure of satisfaction in your job is finding a job that allows you to work with your hobbies and interests.
