How to Determine the Sex of a Bunny
It is important to determine the sex of a bunny before it reaches 3 months old. This helps to avoid unwanted litters by segregating your bunny population into male and female groups. The process of "sexing" your bunny is fairly straightforward. It becomes especially simple if your bunny is a male because of the presence of testicles. Male rabbits are also eligible for neutering earlier than females, which makes the process an important aspect of controlling the population effectively.

1
Hold the rabbit on its back and move the tail away from its base between the rear legs to expose the anus and genital region.
-
2
Identify the anus and the genital opening. The anus is the hole closest to the base of the tail. The genital opening is closer to the belly of the animal. Place your fingers on the belly and gently part the fur to fully expose both orifices.

3
Feel around on both sides of the genital orifice to determine whether or not the animal has testicles. A lack of testicles may indicate the rabbit is a neutered male or a female.
-
4
Push down on either side of the genital orifice if no testicles are found. This causes the main organ to protrude for further examination.
-
5
Examine the protruding organ to determine if the rabbit is male or female. The penis of male rabbits often protrudes from the outer covering. Examine the opening of the protruding organ if no penis is exposed. A wide round opening usually indicates a male.
-
6
Examine the protrusion from the side if you are still unsure. The protruding vulva of a female rabbit is shaped like a pyramid when viewed from the side. The opening on the orifice is also more narrow and has contractor muscles.
