How to Send a Fax on a Toshiba Satellite M505-S4940 Fax Modem

The phone modem located on the back of your Toshiba Satellite M505-S4940 is typically used to connect to the Internet using a dial-up Internet connection. However, it also doubles as a fax modem. Using Windows 7's built-in faxing software, you can send faxes to any other machine in the world with your Toshiba laptop, as if you were using a traditional fax machine.

      Connect a phone cable to the fax modem port on the back of the Toshiba Satellite M505-S4940, and connect the other end to a phone jack.

      Click "Start," then type in "Windows Fax and Scan" in the search box that appears at the bottom of the "Start" dialogue box and press Enter.

      Click on "Windows Fax and Scan" from the search results to open the program.

      Click "File" and then select "New Fax."

      Click "Connect to a fax modem" in the window that appears, then click through the prompts to automatically configure your Toshiba's modem. This also opens a new fax window.

      Enter the number you plan to fax to in the "To:" section of the New Fax window and a subject in the "Subject" line; then type your fax in the body.
