How to Decorate a Boy's Bedroom Using Chain Link Fencing
Decorate a boy's bedroom using chain link fencing to add a touch of industrial modernism to the space. This project requires a basic handyman knowledge of how to cut the fencing down into the sizes that you need using wire snippers and a pair or work gloves. Leaving the fencing as is, with its silver finish, fits well in a heavy metal theme. Customizing the pieces further, however, allows you to bring it into any color or decor scheme successfully. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Clean old chain link fencing to remove any rust, old paint or ground-in dirt using a wire brush. Use a sandblaster for a fence that needs a deep cleaning.
-
2
Lay down drop cloths or plastic sheeting in a well-ventilated area. Paint the chain link fence using aluminum paint on a wide-nap roller fitted to a roller handle to get into all of the chain's indentations and grooves. Cover both sides and apply paint in thin coats to avoid clumping or dripping.

Weave fabric strips through the links of the fence to create letters or symbols. For example, create his initials or the name of his favorite sports team.

4
Hang the finished pieces on the wall of the bedroom, suspending it from screw-in hooks. Or hang it behind his bed to create a custom headboard.
-
5
Accessorize other items with chain link fencing to enhance the theme. Attach smaller pieces to the front of solid nightstands or dresser drawers, or hang a chain link gate from the ceiling to create a custom room divider.

Tips & Warnings
Use other metals as accents in your design scheme as well. For example, create armor out of chain-mail for a medieval modern theme or use the rings to embellish lamp shades.
