How to Level Up in "LOTRO"
"Lord of the Rings Online" places you in the fictional world of J.R.R Tolkien's Middle Earth, pitting you against Middle Earth's hardened warriors, orcs, goblins and other enemies who see you as nothing more than a midday snack. Fortunately, you'll have the aid of other players and the benefit of leveling up, which strengthens your character. To level up, you'll need to gain experience points, which are awarded by killing or completing quests.

1
Kill enemies. Each enemy killed grants experience points. The experience earned depreciates as the enemy's level approaches your level or lower. For example, killing a Level 4 enemy when you're Level 3 will award more experience than if you killed a Level 3 enemy. Each enemy is color-coded. Gray enemies are ones that no longer give experience because their level is too far below your character's.

2
Complete solo quests. Quests are found from the beginning of the game. Quests are essentially missions that various characters will ask you to complete. For example, you may be asked to kill five orcs or collect five types of armor from slain enemies. When you turn in the quest, you gain experience. Like enemies, quests are color-coded, and gray quests do not award experience. Solo quests differ from group quests in that solo quests can be completed without any additional help from other players.

3
Complete group quests. Group quests are found as you progress through the game and are generally reserved for capping off large quest lines or for dungeons. Group quests award more experience, but you must have help from other players.
