How Do I Claim My Unemployment Weeks in Kentucky?

Once the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training approves your benefits, you must file a weekly claims certification to request a payment before you receive any compensation. The weekly certification process asks you to answer questions about your eligibility so the OET can determine whether you qualify for a payment for that week. In Kentucky, claimants file their claims one every other week for the each of the previous weeks of benefits.

      Access the claims site (www.kewes.ky.gov).

      Click "Request a Benefit Check." Use your Social Security number and PIN to log into the system.

      Answer the automated questions presented by the system. Click "Continue" to review your answers.

      Click "Back" to edit your answers. Click "Submit Your Claim" to enter the claim. Do not close the browser until you see the message

      Call the claims line (877) 369-5984 using a touch-tone phone. Press the "1" key to select the option to file your weeks.

      Use your Social Security number and your PIN to log into the system.

      Use the telephone keypad to answer each of the questions about your claim, including pressing the "1" key for yes and the "2" key for no. Enter compensation amounts in dollars and cents if applicable.

      Press "1" to submit your claim at the end of the questions when prompted. Do not hang up until the automated system tells you it is okay to do so.

Tips & Warnings

  • Filing your weekly certification is only available Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or on Sunday between 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

  • You must be using the Internet Explorer browser to file your weekly claims certification through the Internet. If you don't have access to this Internet browser, you should call the claims line instead.
