How to Challenge a Michigan Unemployment Claim
When the Department of Energy, Labor and Growth reviews a Michigan unemployment claim, it makes a determination on whether the claim is valid based on the state laws. It then mails a notice of determination to both the claimant and the employer. Both parties have a right to protest or challenge the claim by submitting a written request to the DELEG within 30 days of the determination.

Tips & Warnings
Your reference number depends on your status in the claim. If you are the claimant, you should include your Social Security number on the appeal request because the state will use it as a reference in your claim. If you're the employer, you should include your Michigan tax identification number.
You must have the appeals request within 30 calendar days of the date on the determination notice. If the deadline falls on a weekend or state holiday, it's moved to the next business day. If you filed your appeal late, you will have to include a valid reason for doing so. If your reason does not indicate the lateness was through reasons beyond your control, your appeal will be denied.
