Examine the undertones of your hair by taking a closer look at your roots and the underside of your hair. These areas are typically darker than the rest of your hair, and if you are looking to try a darker shade of blond, these undertones can be a great guide to finding the best color for you.

2
Consider your skin tone when choosing your darker blonde color. Matching a warm skin tone with a cool hair color, or vice versa, can make you appear washed out and drained. If your skin is more golden or yellow, stick to warmer colors. If your skin tone is more pink or blue toned, stick to cool colors.

Choose a color that is a shade lighter than your desired darker blond color. Hair dye often turns out darker than the color indicated on the box, and it is far easier to go darker than it is to go lighter. You can always dye your hair again, if you still want to go darker.

Do a strand test before you begin. Not only will you be checking for any adverse reactions to the hair dye, but you will also get an idea of how the color will turn out. Don't be afraid to test a few different areas of your hair to get a better perspective.
-
5
Apply a deep conditioning treatment to your hair after rinsing out the dye and reapply the treatment once a week afterward. Dry hair makes color look dull and listless. Keeping your hair healthy will give you the best overall results, regardless of the color you choose.
