GIMP Header Tutorial

Building a website often includes designing quality graphics. The header at the top of the homepage is given priority due to its prominence and ability to attract visitors. Headers often are created by a professional designer, but, if you have a copy of the freeware graphics program GIMP, you can easily create the header yourself.

Instructions

      Load any photos or other images you might like to add to the header onto your computer, saving them all to the same folder.

      Open "GIMP." Select "File" from the menu and choose "New." In the dialog that opens, choose "Web Banner Common" and click "OK."

      Select the "Blend" tool from the toolbar and use it to apply the gradient of you choice to the background.

      Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open as Layers." In the dialog, select the images you want to add to the header and click "Open."

      Use the "Move" and "Scale" tools to place the images where you want them in the header.

      Select the "Text" tool and use it to add your text to your header. Save your work as a JPEG.
