How to Decorate Columns With Tulle
Tulle fabric adds a whimsical feel to a space with its billowy, lightweight appearance. People may be familiar with tulle as the material used to make bridal veils and dancing tutus. The fabric comes in an array of color choices to fit all decorating needs. If you're hosting an indoor event such as a wedding reception or princess-themed birthday party, decorating columns with tulle can add to the fairy tale atmosphere.
Instructions
-
Tulle Bows
-
1
Measure the circumference of the column and record the number.
-
2
Cut a strip of fabric that's at least double the measurement in length. Base the width on the desired thickness of the bow.
-
-
3
Tie the ribbon in a bow around the column. Twist two different colors of fabric together before tying the bow for variety. Place one bow per column or stack a number of them on each one.
Column Wrapping
-
4
Wrap either the entire column or a section of the column in tulle.
-
5
Cut a piece of tulle approximately 5 in. longer than the circumference of the column.
-
6
Wrap it into place around the column and attach it with safety pins. Sew the fabric in place if the appearance of safety pins is bothersome.
-
7
Fluff the tulle around the column to make it billow outwards.
Tulle Shapes
-
8
Cut outlines of different shapes from cardboard. Make the shapes relevant to the event's theme.
-
9
Lay the cutout on a piece of tulle and trace around it with chalk. Cut out the tulle shape.
-
10
Smooth a thin layer of craft glue on the cardboard and press the tulle shape into place on the cutout. Hang the shapes from the columns.
Tulle Streamers
-
11
Create streamers from tulle if you have multiple columns in the room. Cut strips of one or two colors of tulle. Use a single ribbon or twist two ribbons of tulle around each other to create a streamer.
-
12
Drape the streamers between columns.
-
13
Tape them into place for security.
