A name plate can be any color you like.

Name plates commonly refer to small rectangular signs with the name of a person, product or company engraved into them. You'll usually see name plates outside of buildings or offices, by mailboxes or in elevators. Name plates help visitors identify rooms and places, making navigation of new spaces easier and more organized. While name plates generally have conservative colors such as bronze, gold or silver, there's no rule against a more exciting appearance. Painting a name plate a bright color can give the entire surrounding area the face lift it needs.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray the name plate with a few squirts from an all-purpose cleaner. Wipe it down with a lint-free cloth and allow it to dry.

    • 2

Rub it very lightly with 100-grit sandpaper. Dampen a cloth with mineral spirits and wipe away all the dust from sanding.

    • 3

Cover the area surrounding the name plate with newspaper, held in place with painter's tape. Spray the nameplate with spray paint. Move the can of paint back and forth evenly until you cover the name plate. Allow it to dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • For name plates with engraved letters: As long as you don't focus on spraying the paint directly into the letters, they will still stand out as lighter from the rest of the sign.
