Blueberry juice is nutritious and delicious.

Blueberries are nutritious little fruits, loaded with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and anthocyanins, which have been linked to cancer protection. A 2010 study by the University of Cincinnati stated that consuming 1 pint of blueberry juice daily may improve memory in older adults. But perhaps the best thing about blueberry juice is that it's delicious. When you pick or buy a fresh crop, make blueberry juice concentrate by boiling and mashing the berries. Dilute it and drink it, or store the concentrate to enjoy later in the season. Does this Spark an idea?

Rinse the blueberries under a running tap. Mix and rub them with your fingers to scrub off any clinging surface dirt.

    • 3

Place the blueberries in a heavy pot.

    • 4

Cover the blueberries with 1 inch to 2 inches of water.

    • 5

Bring the water to a slow, rolling boil.

    • 6

Mash the blueberries with a potato masher.

    • 7

Allow the blueberries to come to a boil again.

    • 8

Remove the blueberries from the heat and allow mixture to cool until it stops steaming.

    • 9

Pour the blueberry mash through a jelly bag (or a colander covered in four layers of cheesecloth) and into a clean glass jar. Use a spoon to help press the juice out of the blueberry mash.

    • 10

Discard or compost the juiced blueberry mash.

    • 11

Dilute the blueberry concentrate with three to four parts water (or as much as desired) before drinking it.
