How to Link a Mobile Phone to Facebook and Twitter

Save

Twitter and Facebook are popular social networking websites that allow you to post status updates to your personal profile. Rather than actually logging in to these sites, you can update your status on both Facebook and Twitter using your mobile phone. This is a simple and straightforward process on both sites. You will need to link your mobile phone to each account. Once linked, you can send text messages to a specific number for each site to update your status.

Facebook

  • Open your Web browser and navigate to the Facebook.com website. Type your email address and password into the corresponding fields in the upper right corner and click "Login."

  • Click on "Account" in the top right corner of the page that displays. A drop-down box will appear. Scroll down and click "Account Settings."

  • Click the "Mobile" tab and then click on the "Register for Facebook Text Messages" link. A pop-up window opens.

  • Click the "Country" drop-down menu and select your country of residence from the list. Then, click the "Mobile Carrier" drop-down box, choose your mobile carrier and click "Next." Facebook will request a confirmation code.

  • Text the letter "F" to "32665" using your mobile phone. Facebook will send a text message back to your phone with a confirmation code. Input the confirmation code into the available field on the Facebook website.

  • Place a check mark next to "Add this phone number to my profile" and click "Next." Facebook will link your mobile phone with your Facebook account.

  • Send text messages to "32665" (FBOOK) to update your Facebook status.

Twitter

  • Open your Web browser and navigate to the Twitter.com website. Input your username and account password into the designated fields in the top right corner and click "sign In."

  • Click on your username in the top right corner of the next page. A drop-down menu will appear. Scroll down and click on "Settings."

  • Click on the "Mobile" tab. Click the "Country/region" drop-down menu and select your country of residence from the list.

  • Input your 10-digit mobile phone number (including area code) into the "Phone number" field. Click "Start." Note that you must also select your mobile carrier from a list of carriers if your cellular service provider is not in the United States.

  • Text the word "GO" to the five-digit number that appears. Once Twitter receives the text message, your mobile phone will be linked with your Twitter account.

  • Send text messages to the five-digit number that Twitter gave you in Step 5 to post status updates to your account.

Tips & Warnings

  • Facebook and Twitter provide these mobile services free of charge but normal text message rates from your mobile carrier apply.
