How to Place an Automatic Bid on eBay

The eBay website provides users with access to online auctions 24 hours a day. The nature of these around-the-clock auctions does, however, have a drawback: You may not always be able to be sitting in front of your computer to bid at the end of an auction you are interested in. Automatic bidding allows eBay to place bids on your behalf, up to a maximum amount you specify. You can easily activate automatic bidding the first time you bid on an item.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to the eBay website. Log in to your eBay account using your email address and password.

    • 2

Browse the auction categories on the left side of the screen, or use the provided search box in the middle of the screen, to select an item you wish to bid on.

    • 3

Click the name of the item -- the item's link -- to visit the auction page for the item you chose.

    • 4

Enter the maximum amount you are willing to bid on the item in the "Your Max Bid" box.

    • 5

Click the "Place Bid" button. A new confirmation screen will come up.

    • 6

Click "Confirm Bid." Now, eBay will place automatic bids for you, up to the maximum amount you specified until the close of the auction.

Tips & Warnings

  • When auto bidding on your behalf, eBay will only bid as much as necessary to keep you as the item's top bidder.
