How to Get a Stuck DVD Out of a Multi-Disk Player

Retrieve your DVD from a multi-disk player with a screwdriver.

Multi-disk DVD players use a carousel or rotating platter to change out DVDs. Because there are more moving parts, the chances increase that a disk can jump from the tray and become stuck inside the component. In some cases, the jammed disk blocks the DVD tray from opening. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver and follow a few simple procedures to retrieve your DVD.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the DVD player from the electrical outlet and disconnect the audio-video cables on the back of the component.

    • 2

Remove the screws holding the cabinet cover to the component. There are typically two screws securing the cabinet to the back of the component, as well as one screw on each side.

    • 3

Pull the cabinet cover from the sides gently off the component, and slide backward so the metal lip on the cover pulls away from the front top edge of the player.

    • 4

Plug in the power cord but do not touch any internal components on the DVD player. Press the "Eject" or "Open/Close" button on your player's remote control to extend the media tray. If the tray will not come out due to the stuck DVD, unplug the power cord.

    • 5

Slide the jammed DVD from under the plastic tray, whether your model is a carousel type or platter. Remove the DVD by sliding it through the gap at the back of the component between the carousel or platter and the metal cabinet.

    • 6

Replace the cover on the DVD player and secure with the screws.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not work on the DVD player while the power is connected. Plug in the power cord only long enough to try ejecting the disk tray, then unplug the cord.
