How to Make a Trifold Wedding Program

Wedding programs, though not a must for all weddings, are thoughtful personalized mementos for guests. Also, they provide a way to help people of different faiths understand and participate in your ceremony, if you are having a religious wedding. Professionally designed and printed wedding programs can be costly and may contain errors that go unnoticed before printing. Making your own wedding programs at home allows you to personalize them and save money. Trifold wedding programs are the most common and are easy to design and print.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the design or word processing program on your computer. Set the paper size on the program to match the size of the paper you will be printing on. Most trifold wedding programs are printed on standard letter-size paper.

    • 2

Set up three columns running horizontally across the page. Most design and word processing programs will measure margins and size columns automatically if you select the number of columns under the "Format" menu.

    • 3

Design your wedding program. Be sure to include pertinent information, such as the names of all members of the wedding party, the roles that they fill and the order of the ceremony. Additional information can include quotes or poems about love or marriage, and thank-yous and memorials for friends or family who could not be with you on your wedding day. Place this information in the second and third columns of the trifold program, leaving the first column open for the cover.

    • 4

Design the cover of your wedding program. The cover can be anything that you want it to be; common themes include romantic or religious quotes, pictures of the bride and groom, or images such as flowers or angels that match the design of the wedding invitations.

    • 5

Check and double-check your wedding program for grammatical errors, misspelled words -- especially names -- and omissions. Have a friend check the program as well before you print it.

    • 6

Print a test copy of your trifold wedding program on regular paper. Check to make sure all the text is lining up and everything appears as you want it to. Fold the test copy in thirds to make sure no text is hidden by the folds. If it is, adjust the text in your design program, then print more test copies until everything lines up.

    • 7

Load your program paper into your printer. A medium-weight card stock in cream or white is a common choice for programs. If you're using heavier paper, adjust the paper stock option under "Printing Options" in your design program so it will print properly. Print a test copy of the program on the card stock you've chosen.

    • 8

Place the test copy on your scoring board. Align the first column margin with the scoring edge and score all the way down the paper using medium force. Repeat this with the second column.

    • 9

Print, score and fold the rest of your wedding programs. It's a good idea to have a few extras at hand on the day of the wedding.
