How to Access Vista Recovery on a Dell Laptop

Dell's recovery software uses a system restore image that is stored in a hidden partition of your Dell computer's hard drive. Unlike earlier editions of the image recovery software, you do not need to use a combination of multiple key presses to boot in to recovery. Instead, the Dell restore options are included on the Vista "Repair your computer" screen.

Instructions

    • 1

Restart your laptop if it is currently on. If it is powered off, turn the computer on.

    • 2

Press "F8" as the computer boots to access the "Advanced Boot Options" screen.

    • 3

Select "Repair Your Computer" from the list of options, then press "Enter" on your keyboard.

    • 4

Select your keyboard layout from the list of regional keyboard configurations, then select "Next" and press "Enter."

    • 5

Select your computer's user account from the list of available users. Supply your password if one is required, then click "OK."

    • 6

Select "Dell Factory Image Restore" to load the Dell recovery utility.
