How to Get a Cinema Job

Save

The cinema is a great place to work if you love film. However, a job in a theater isn't easy, and it comes with chores such as cleaning up after messy moviegoers. If you still want the job, you should put together a good resume and cover letter tailored to the specific position and company.

Things You'll Need

  • Cover letter
  • Resume
  • Put together a resume. Your resume should include your contact information at the top, followed by your education and job experience, complete with dates and contact information for your previous employers. References should be listed after the work history or on a separate sheet. Your resume should ideally be a page, or two pages at the most.

  • Review the jobs available at the cinema where you are applying. Call the theater and ask about available jobs, show up in person or go to the theater's website and check the available jobs if any are listed. Make sure that you meet the qualifications. Call the theater to get the name of the hiring manager.

  • Write a cover letter. Your cover letter should be addressed to the hiring manager, and it should state why you want the job and why you believe you would be a good fit for the company. This is a good place to state your interest in film and to highlight any experience or achievements that are relevant.

  • Drop off the resume and cover letter at the theater. Make sure that you are dressed well in at least business casual and that you are polite. Make a good impression when you turn in your resume and cover letter, and the people who see you will remember.

  • Apply online. Many theaters, particularly larger chains, may not even have paper and pencil applications for cinema work. In these cases, go to the theater's website and find the online application. You should look for a link that says "Jobs" or "Careers" and fill out the online application just as you would a paper application, including your personal information, work history and notable accomplishments. When you finish the application, click "Submit."
